Day 1 - Where the Amazon Begins
8:00 AM
Welcome and pick up from the airport (previous flight details confirmation) or hotel. First, we drive about 2 hours from IQUITOS to NAUTA (a town south of Iquitos).
10:00 AM
In Nauta we will walk around the little local market to see the exotic products which arrive every day from the jungle. Then we take a thatched roof, secure and comfortable boat which will take us to our eco refuge. Firstly we travel and explore down the MARAÑON river, along the way we can watch beautiful landscapes and expect to find some interesting wildlife, birds, and dolphins.

Meet the UCAYALI river to watch the intersections where the mother of all rivers of the world begins: the AMAZON river. Afterward, we will travel up the UCAYALI river stream, you will have the chance to see different bird species and local villages, then we arrive at the YARAPA-CUMACEBA river basin: which is a natural reserve protected by the villagers where we can appreciate interesting wildlife.

We go out to explore along the river and look for the famous pink and grey river dolphins which will start to appear near your boat, you can also jump and take a refreshing swim close to them (optional), take a moment to breathe the freshest air on the planet while we wait to watch a beautiful sunset from the river.

Dinner and night walk excursion, once the sun sets, many creatures come out, some are the predators and others the pray, on your walk you, you can see diverse species: frogs, tarantulas, snakes, insects, turn off your flashlight and stay quiet to let your sense adapt to the darkness.

Early morning excursion by boat to watch a beautiful sunrise, see and hear many birds species, interesting flora and fauna and get the first energies of the day.

Jungle hike, participate on a fascinating jungle walk to admire the spectacular nature of the Amazon rainforest while your guide explains you about trees, plants, and their traditional uses for Amazonian people, you will walk through this greenery, find a vine and swing like TARZAN, search for jungle fruits and taste them but also look for a wide variety of monkeys, sloth, snakes and whatever the jungle has to offer us (depends on the weather and season).

Afternoon jungle cruise or walk excursion to search for the famous three toe sloth (second slowest animal of the world), embark on an adventurous boat ride, and keep your eyes wide open to spot sloths and other animals good at camouflage like green iguanas, lizards, porcupines, etc.

Dinner and nighttime caiman spotting, the mystery of the jungle will be the highlight throughout the excursion. We will explore little rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water searching for caimans which are close relatives of the alligator that can be found throughout the Amazon rainforest.

Daytime amazon cruise and trek. After a relaxing night and breakfast, we get ready for a day full of adventure through the tributaries of the Amazon river. We will stay most of the day out of the refuge and combine our activities, this option will allow us to explore every little creek and lake and go deeper into the jungle and find more interesting flora and fauna, ancient and giant trees, variety of monkey species, iguanas, porcupines, sloth, birds such as: blue and yellow, scarlet macaws, hawks, toucans, parrots, herons, etc. Learn how to get water from vines and other surviving techniques, fish for the famous Piranha, sardines, catfish, make fire and cook them for our lunch, if you are feeling particularly adventurous you can in and swim in one of the lagoons if it is a warm day (optional)

Early morning excursion to search for more Amazonian wildlife, explore small streams to see more bird species and monkeys, visit lakes that host many species of plants such as the giant lily pad that can grow up to 6 ft. in diameter (an aquatic plant with giant leaves and beautiful flowers)

Dugout canoe trip, for centuries, river people have moved along the Amazonian rivers on dagout canoes. even today, this mode of transportation is the best way to explore the rivers, navigating slow, listening to the sounds of the jungle, and observing nature, attempting to imitate the exact way river people see the forest, you may even be able to observe rare and elusive creatures that feed and nest close to the river shore and lakes.
