8.30 AM: Pickup
We will come to welcome you at the hotel you are staying at in the city of Iquitos and pick you up to begin our tour from there.
8:40 AM: IRON HOUSE
Walking next to your tour guide you will appreciate beautiful historic old buildings that date back to the rubber boom (1880 – 1914 approx.) Including the famous IRON HOUSE, that was designed by the Gustave Eiffel and his team back in 1887, the ex HOTEL PALACE, it is the most flamboyant building in the city, it looks similar to European edification: eclectic, modernist, with tiles, forged iron balcony, Italian marbles. The Main Square stared its construction in 1898, in its central obelisk, six meters high honors the combatants of the pacific war (Peru – Chile). The FITZCARALD HOUSE, it was constructed before the rubber fever, made from adobe and wood. The CATHEDRAL of Iquitos, it has a Neogothic style. Walk by the river bank BOULEVARD and watch interesting landscapes and souvenirs, etc.
9:30 AM – 10:30 AM: ETNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM
Admire the indigenous culture in harmony with nature in its
disticts forms such as: religion, daily life, ceremonies and traditions that continues between humans and
the amazon forests. In this exhibition you can observe how the amazonian people and culture interact
with animals, plants, forests, rivers and lakes. The etnographic displays that include feather art,
ceremonial objects, musical instruments, tools that are used for fishing and hunting, etc.
10:30 AM –11:30 AM: NEIGHBORHOOD AND MARKET OF BELEN
A popular and humble place located in the southeast outskirts from Iquitos city. The inhabitants make a living through fishing and commerce, the place is famous because of the wooden and palm roofed houses built on top of rafts which between December and may remain flooded and the population uses boats and canoes to transport but also bridges are improvised for transportation in the rustic streets.
11:30 AM – 1:00 PM: MANATEE RESCUE CENTER
It is located along the Iquitos-Nauta road (4 km) south of Iquitos, it is a research center of biology responsible for the rescue of MANATEE (sea caw) which acuatic mammal was about to be extinct of the Amazonian rivers in former times.
There you will see a group of volunteers who are trying to rehabilitate Manatees which arrive sick from the black market and save them from extinction, you can also find other animals which are being treated before releasing them back to their natural habitat.
